8th Pay Commission: Big Boost for Central Employees, 186% Salary Increase Expected in Budget!

8th Pay Commission: If the government approves a fitment factor of 2.86, the minimum salary of central government employees could increase by 186% to ₹51,480, as per reports. Discussions about the 8th Pay Commission are gaining momentum, although the government has not made any official announcement yet. People are actively talking about it, and speculation is widespread.

Currently, employees receive a minimum basic salary of ₹18,000 per month under the 7th Pay Commission, which was raised from ₹7,000 under the 6th Pay Commission. According to Shiv Gopal Mishra, Secretary (Staff Side) of the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (JCM), employees expect a minimum fitment factor of 2.86. This is 29 basis points higher than the 2.57 fitment factor implemented in the 7th Pay Commission.

Minimum Salary to Be ₹51,480 Per Month

According to a report by Financial Express, if the government approves the fitment factor of 2.86, the minimum basic salary for government employees will increase by 186% to ₹51,480, compared to the current ₹18,000. Similarly, under the 8th Pay Commission, pensions are also expected to rise by 186%, meaning the current pension of ₹9,000 could go up to ₹25,740.

When Will the 8th Pay Commission Be Formed?

There has been no official announcement regarding the expected date for the formation of the new Pay Commission. However, media reports suggest that it might be announced in the 2025–26 budget. Earlier, during the 2024–25 budget, employee unions had approached the Cabinet Secretary and the Finance Ministry with their demands.

7th Pay Commission Was Implemented in 2016

The Pay Commission is a body appointed by the government to review and recommend changes to the salary structure, allowances, and benefits of central government employees. The 7th Pay Commission was formed on February 28, 2014, by the then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The commission submitted its report to the government on November 19, 2015, and its recommendations were implemented on January 1, 2016.
